Please listen to "Naked As We Came" by Iron & Wine while reading (or at least view the lyrics by clicking the title of this entry):
Reflecting
I sit looking out the window,
facing the opposite direction
the train is headed.
All I can see is
what has already passed,
not what is coming.
The sun shines brilliantly
yet softly upon the city,
and I realise:
this is the first time
I have seen this view -
all other times
I travelled home in the dark,
unaware of the sights,
sounds, motion,
life.
I think of you,
the sun shines brighter,
an old song begins to play,
and I finally pay attention
to the words, the poetry, the music.
I think of you,
and I begin to glow,
like the sun,
while holding back my tears.
I cannot see what's coming,
but I know my final stop,
and as the city passes me by,
I am so thankful for the sun,
because I am seeing everything anew,
fresh, light, and open,
and I begin to glow like the sun,
as I think of you.
